ACTIVISM: WASHINGTON DC

Gender March on Washington Organization Established

[ATLANTA, GA] - The Gender March on Washington Exploratory Committee voted on August 10, 2002, at a meeting in Atlanta to establish an organization to plan a national march on Washington. The Gender March on Washington Committee will plan and coordinate a national grassroots effort to culminate in the Gender March in Autumn 2003 or Spring 2004.

The March Committee has selected veteran activist Rory Gould to lead its effort. Gould has been a political organizer for 34 years, including holding Democratic Party offices, leading numerous GLBT organizations, and organizing previous national marches. He is serving as chair without salary.

The next organizing meeting will take place in Portland, OR during the week of November 4, 2002 to coincide with NGLTF's Creating Change conference. A leadership team is being assembled, and volunteers are needed at every level. All members of the Gender Community and allies who support the Gender March on Washington are encouraged to attend.

Volunteers can write to for details.
